Colombia Peace Camp
June 25 - July 11, 2020
Ages 15 - 22
MCC is excited to offer a Peace Camp in Colombia, summer of 2020! This Peace Camp will run in partnership with Mennonite Mission Network and their Youth Venture (YV) program. During this experience, participants will travel to the northern coastal region of Colombia to partner with and learn from projects of local Mennonite churches in their peacebuilding work. The Mennonite Church of Colombia (IMCOL) has decades of experience supporting vulnerable populations within the country after 60 years of armed conflict.
The YV experience has three components that will take place in different locations across the coast:
- Faith formation: Barranquilla is the central hub of coastal churches with IMCOL. Participants will engage with the local congregation, Celebra, which has programs for women and children focused on peacebuilding. Participants will also engage in activities with a church plant of Celebra, in Pital de Megua. The group will connect with other youth groups in the area and will attend services and events from other congregations.
- Learning: Montes de María is a region with rural communities affected by violence from the early 2000s. Sembrandopaz is a Colombian Anabaptist NGO that does regional peacebuilding initiatives, community organizing, agricultural projects and local advocacy. Participants will spend time in these communities to learn about the political context and how they’re working towards peace.
