New Hamburg Comforter Knotting Blitz

The Great Winter Warm-up comforter-knotting blitz boosts the number of blankets MCC is able to send across the globe to people in vulnerable situations. Each blanket provides not only warmth, but is a tangible reminder to recipients that they are not forgotten.

This winter, Mennonite Central Committee will host The Great Winter Warm-Up (GWW). This special in-person event encourages comforter-making to give the gift of warmth around the world. Comforters are used in MCC’s international relief efforts when disaster or conflict displace people from their homes and community.

We are inviting churches and comforter knotting groups to hold or attend comforter-knotting blitzes during January and February.

There are two ways to participate in this year's Great Winter Warm-up:

  • Host your own GWW comforter-knotting blitz. If your church plans to have its own event, we would love to know about it and send someone to visit. You can let us know about your event, including the date and time by emailing Justin here.
  • Drop in to the Material Resource (MR) centre in New Hamburg on January 27 from 9:00am - 4:00pm to participate in a comforter-knotting blitz. Knotters of all skills are welcome. Snacks and drinks provided. If you have questions, please contact Alecia here.

Last year, MCC shipped 59,277 comforters created by people like you to places like Guatemala, Haiti, Iraq, Malawi, Syria and Ukraine. Your time and creative talents are helping to share the message of God’s love with those in need. Our goal is to create as many comforters as possible in this year's Great Winter Warm-up. Learn more here.

Together, we can share warmth and comfort with our global neighbours.
