The situation in Afghanistan
How your generosity is changing the lives of women who have lost their freedom
This Easter, caring people like you helped women learn how to read and write in Afghanistan. And in the few months since, your generosity has quite literally changed lives:
“I feel like I have just learned to speak,” a student in an MCC-supported literacy program said.
“Before the course, when I could not read, I could not speak my mind. But now, people in my family and neighbourhood tend to listen to me because they see a value in what I say and how I formulate my thoughts.”
What an amazing impact for women who have been silenced for too long. An impact you helped make possible!
But that’s not all: your support and prayers have also lifted up our partners on the ground who are taking a significant risk in offering these classes. Your care has spurred them on to achieve amazing results:
“I feel the women’s life is changing due to this project,” said a supervisor. “Their families are beginning to comprehend the importance of education for women.”
Many girls have been able to convince their families to wait until their education is complete to find a husband.
In fact, many girls have been able to convince their families to wait until their education is complete to find a husband. In a country where early marriage is extremely common, that’s huge.
This is just the start of what our community's generosity has done for women and girls in Afghanistan. Thank you!
