People in Gaza are living on the edge of survival. Thanks to kind-hearted donors like you, 894 food boxes were delivered to vulnerable families in August 2024 to keep starvation at bay for another month, one of six anticipated distributions. (Photo courtesy of Al-Najd Developmental Forum)

As the conflict in Gaza continues with a fragile ceasefire announced in January, the quality of life for families in the region has deteriorated. Over 1.9 million people have been forced to flee from their homes, and as sanitation and healthcare systems collapse, diseases are spreading rapidly. The blockade on Gaza, along with frequent airstrikes, severely restricted the flow of essential goods, including food. As a result, 86% of households in Gaza face severe food insecurity. And approximately 60,000 children under 5 are suffering from acute cases of malnutrition.

Thanks to your swift and compassionate support through MCC’s account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and with funding from the Canadian government, our partners, Al-Najd Developmental Forum and the Latin Patriarchate, have been able to deliver critical food assistance to families in need. In August 2024, your generosity provided food boxes to a total of 1,824 families — all in North Gaza.

Your support is making a profound difference for families living through unimaginable hardship. Thank you for standing with them during this crisis.

Turning the tide on malnutrition in India

With your support, families are pursuing year-round food security

Seteng Markey developed a vermi-compost pit at her home in Bartoli village where MCC funds a project through its account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank to improve food and nutrition security in Indigenous communities. She is a beneficiary of the project implemented by MCC's local partner DISHA. She is collecting compost to use on her crops.
Because of your support, Seteng Markey has a thriving vegetable garden. She learned organic agriculture practices, including how to make her own fertilizer. Now, she’s using compost like the one she’s holding to grow her crops. (DISHA photo/Ramesh Chandra Mallick)

Food is scarce for 1,200 indigenous families in 15 villages through Kuarmunda, India. Environmental challenges coupled with unproductive agricultural practices have plunged these communities into chronic malnutrition and poverty.

But thanks to generous donors like you, the tide is turning. Through MCC’s account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank and local partner, DISHA, families are working to achieve year-round food security. They are also adopting sustainable practices for using their communities’ natural resources.

In just the first year of this project, your support has already sparked meaningful progress toward the communities’ ambitious goals.
