What is SOOP?

Share life’s experiences through service opportunities with our partners! SOOP provides short-term service opportunities for families and adults of all ages, and is designed to bring together the experiences and skills of adults with missional faith communities all across Canada and the U.S.

Through MCC, SOOP arranges short-term placements ranging from two weeks to two months.

There are about 70 SOOP sites throughout Canada and the U.S. SOOP staff and participants, along with local coordinators, discern the location, time and length of assignments that best fit current needs.

Assignment information

We believe in Jesus Christ, God's son, as Savior and Lord. We believe that the Christian church is composed of those who commit themselves to live out the teachings of Christ and to share with each other. Christian love is a central quality of the Christian faith and becomes the basis for our relationship with all people regardless of creed, ethnic origin, nationality, sex or political view. Our response to human conflict, injustice, war and racial tension is based on the biblical teachings of nonviolence. The service ministry of the SOOP program is established as a positive expression of this understanding.

SOOP service is performed in the name of Christ, arising in response to human need and the call to Christian discipleship. The program uses mature personnel with a wide variety of skills and levels of education. It is hoped that both personnel and program can serve as channels for healing and reconciliation in a broken and divided world.
