Join MCC for Peace Week

This Peace Week, MCC is equipping you to become peacemakers in your communities with three-part webinar series "Elephant at the Border" as well as "Forced to Flee," a simulation experience to help you understand the lives of those who have fled homes and communities in search of safety.

I. Elephant at the Border: A Peace Church Response to Annexation

Amidst political discord and talks of annexation across the Canada-US border, what is the call to followers of Jesus to respond? MCC is hosting four thought-provoking webinars that will explore learning from nonviolent power, peace possibilities and inter-national solidarity.

Session #1: Discipleship and Citizenship
Sunday, September 21st, from 7:00pm – 8:30pm EDT

As Christians, our primary belonging and allegiance is to the Kingdom of God. Yet we live in specific societies and under specific governments. Can we be both faithful disciples and good citizens?

Session #2: Is Nationalism A Sin?
Sunday, September 28th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm EDT

Nationalism names the love & loyalty many people have for their countries, a love and loyalty that has a palpable dark side. But is all nationalism a sin? Or are there faithful alternatives?

Session #3: National Defense Without Weapons
Sunday, October 5th, 7:00pm – 8:30pm EDT

What if our current crisis is an opportunity for church-based, peace innovation - a realistic way to protect against invasion without violence?

II. Forced to Flee
Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1-2:30 p.m., Community Room

Newcomers face many unseen challenges, such as language barriers and cultural differences. Forced to Flee is a facilitated simulation designed to help participants understand first-hand the challenges that refugees face as they flee their home countries.
