Background overview:

Since January 20, 2025, the U.S. government has made drastic immigration policy changes that have affected newly arrived immigrants (through various pathways) and have also put at risk the lives of current immigrants living in the U.S. with different immigration status. MCC’s partner organizations have guided our thinking into a response-awareness for protection of community members and churches – through Know Your Rights sessions.

A Know Your Rights session consists of three (3) things, preparing community members for interactions with law enforcement officials, creating a family preparedness plan, and preparing participants with detailed information in case of immigration detention. These sessions prepare community members who run the risk of deportation, family separation, and immigration detention and how to prepare their family in case any of these were to happen.

Community organizations, partners and churches have seen an increase in fear from deportation-threats from the U.S. immigration agencies, in specific DHS ICE and DHS CBP – in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies - and we see the need to continue to prepare community members to avoid going through these processes.

This virtual training will help facilitate information to vulnerable immigration populations.
