Building on a Legacy of Compassion

You are invited to join us for the MCC BC Annual General Meeting on FRIDAY, October 18 from 4 pm to 8:30 pm at MCC Centre Thrift (33933 Gladys Ave, Abbotsford).

Join us as we celebrate 10 years of service in the MCC Centre and the growth of Thrift and other programs connected to the MCC Centre building. We will celebrate milestones in MCC’s local and international work including MCC’s role on the creation of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) 40 years ago and our shared efforts to tackle the global food crisis. We are delighted to have Andy Harrington from the CFGB as our keynote speaker.

The AGM is also a time of accountability to our members. In addition to hearing reports and stories, we will also review financial statements, appoint the auditor, elect Board Members and other standard business items.

Keynote Speaker: Andy Harrington

Andy Harrington is the executive director of Canadian Foodgrains Bank. He has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the not-for-profit sector. His experience encompasses working with Youth Unlimited in Canada and around the world, including overseeing international relief projects. Andy has been leading the CFGB for several years in their mission to end world hunger. Right now 10% of the world’s people face food shortages. The CFGB works in partnership with church groups including MCC to overcome hunger in over 30 countries, with the goal of assisting 1.5 million people each year.

10 Years at the MCC Centre

This fall, we will be celebrating 10 years of service here at the MCC Centre. We are delighted to see the growth of volunteers along with the growth of funds to assist with basic needs here at home and around the world. We will provide an inside look into the progress of Thrift, Ten Thousand Villages, Material Resources, local programs and our support of MCC’s international work.

Building on a Legacy of Compassion

MCC has been serving in the name of Christ for over 100 years. During that time MCC has responded to major disasters, as well as addressing conflict and poverty with food production, education, health care, job creation and peace building. Here in BC, we have been assisting refugees, those who live homeless, indigenous reconciliation and more. We will celebrate major milestones in MCC ministry as well as look to ahead to our vison of assisting the most vulnerable people in our world.
