Urge bold action at COP 29

Background: The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will take place from November 11-22, in Baku, Azerbaijan. Participating countries will present their national climate action plans to limit global warming to 1.5° C above pre-industrial levels.

Faith communities in the U.S. are already taking action out of a moral responsibility to care for our neighbors and our common home. For example, congregations are making their buildings more energy efficient; installing solar panels; working to make their communities more walkable, bikeable and breathable; and helping others who are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis.

We can encourage U.S. representatives at COP 29 to live into that moral call by prioritizing the needs of vulnerable populations, increasing funding for global adaptation and mitigation efforts, and committing to radically reduce U.S. carbon emissions.

Actions:

  • Urge President Biden to take bold and courageous climate action at COP 29! (Send the letter below written by Interfaith Power & Light)
  • Participate in the COP 29 Climate Fast.
  • Speak with family, friends, co-workers and community members about your climate actions.

Faith reflection:

Within our darkest night
You kindle a fire
That never dies away
Never dies way.
