Pass a budget that saves lives

Background: As the Trump administration rescinds billions in funding already appropriated for lifesaving humanitarian assistance, global stability, and peacebuilding, Congress has failed to pass a full fiscal year 2026 budget.

This delay continues to adversely affect vulnerable populations globally. Cuts to U.S. foreign assistance exacerbate the growing number of people forcefully displaced and will lead to increases in trauma, famine, food insecurity and, likely, millions of deaths. The unprecedented effects are both domestic and international and increase the potential for violent conflict.

It is time to pass a morally responsible FY26 budget. America’s generosity as a nation must unconditionally reflect the budget that protects lifesaving humanitarian assistance.

Faith reflection: God’s love is generous and not calculating. In the Scriptures, Jesus repeatedly reminds us of our responsibility toward each other, especially in responding to basic needs and saving lives, describing how God blesses and rewards those who are compassionately generous to others (Matthew 25:31-45). God invites us to courageously love, be compassionate and share generously, the way God loves us.

Action: Ask Congress to pass a moral FY2026 budget
