A season of growing and learning
Young adults reflect back on a year of service in new countries and cultures. See some of what they’ve learned on their journeys!
MCC offers a range of immersive young adult programs, including three that invite peacemakers from around the world to spend a pivotal year serving in the name of Christ while exploring a new country and culture.
Learn more about these programs through reflections on service, friendship, faith and more, courtesy of some of last year's participants.
Reflecting on a year of service
“This year was extraordinary for me – to participate in this adventure with purpose, to learn together and to serve in the name of Christ.”
“Leaving my comfort zone is when I grow the most, especially if it is to serve others.”
“I became more open-minded and adaptable, embracing aspects of the host culture while remaining rooted in my own identity.”
“I always let myself be surprised by God, and that was my success — being open ... and whatever the day brought was a blessing.”
“One of the most important things I’ve learned through my year is being able to see Jesus from a different perspective.”
“In every way, this experience has stretched my view and perspective of the world and of myself.”
“My work does not just give me an opportunity to learn about culture and education but also gives my spiritual self a chance to grow.”
“I have been exposed to so many realities I had never seen before. I learn something new every day and am given new perspectives so often.”
“I was pushed to examine how to share, steward and transfer power to promote flourishing within communities and workspaces.”
“I’ve been able to learn more skills in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. I’ve learned a new culture, language and way of life. I’ve seen myself grow.”
“I am blessed to be here, to know the amazing works of MCC Bolivia, to form friendships ... to live with my host family and to travel to many beautiful places.”
“Working on a regenerative farm and forest fueled my passion for environmental conservation.”
“I want to work with youth on a larger scale using the experience gained from this YAMEN assignment.”
“At gatherings and meetings, it is common practice to acknowledge God’s presence and goodness.”
“I have learned that people can achieve peace through having a common goal.”
This extraordinary opportunity “will make me someone who can be an agent of change, not just someone who is changed.”
