Steadfast support for Ukrainian families

You're providing practical, essential care for families and the elderly

Since the Russian military’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the war with Russia has torn through Ukrainian communities. The conflict has caused mass displacement, crippling unemployment and the destruction of essential infrastructure like schools and hospitals, leaving millions vulnerable. Through your support, MCC donors like you are partnering with the Association of Mennonite Brethren Churches of Ukraine (AMBCU) to provide practical, life-sustaining relief. Your generosity has helped the elderly, people with disabilities and families in crisis across Ukraine.

Because of your compassionate gifts, 8,038 people recently received hygiene products and other household necessities. Three containers of supplies and 500 boxes of canned pork have also been delivered and are being sorted by the AMBCU team.

*For young mothers in Ukraine like Horvat*, your compassionate support has been a lifeline throughout the protracted war with Russia. Hygiene supplies, comforters, canned meat and other essential supplies have provided tangible relief and reminded families like Horvat's that they are not forgotten. (Photo courtesy of AMBCU)

Many participants express their deep gratitude for the aid provided. They emphasized that these material resources comfort them and provide a sense of security and dignity. Overall, we learned that relief remains a critical lifeline, and its continued distribution is crucial for participants.

Angelina Kanyaali is a maize farmer in Simunzele village. Her family received monthly food baskets to help them through the drought season when food was scarce. Your compassionate support helped farmers have the resources and strength to focus on their crops — leading to a bumper harvest of staple and cash crops. (MCC photo/Euphrasia Njobvu)

The Ng’onga Ward in southern Zambia is facing severe drought, leading to widespread crop failure and food insecurity. Its remote location makes it difficult for families to access markets and supplies that are 18 kilometres away in Mbabala, the closest town.

Thank you, BIC Church, for the food rations during the most difficult time of ou lives. It was not easy to find food—we spent most of our time walking long distances and queuing for just a bag of mealie meal. You made that difficult time easier by bringing food closer to our homes. We are truly grateful.

With support from MCC donors like you, Brethren in Christ Church (BICC) provided eight months of emergency food relief to 620 households — about 4,200 people — focusing on the elderly and the most vulnerable households.
