A helping hand for vulnerable families in Ukraine

Your support is reaching those who need it most

Ukraine continues to endure a devastating war, shattering lives, homes and livelihoods. In both Cherkasy and Kherson, families face relentless displacement, destroyed homes and deepening economic hardship.

Amidst the devastation, you are giving families hope.

With local MCC partner Uman Help Center Charitable Foundation, 3,532 people received practical support to help them through the winter.

From April 2024 through March 2025:

  • 840 relief kits, 1,447 hygiene kits and 242 infant care
kits were distributed providing families with essentials
like toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand soap, dish soap,
    towels and more.
  • 2,323 warm comforters stitched by MCC volunteers
from across Canada and the U.S. are now keeping
families warm in damaged or poorly insulated homes.
  • 886 individuals received non-perishable, protein-rich
    canned meat.

Canned meat is a critical component of MCC’s relief to countries in conflict because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life that doesn’t require refrigeration. Rising to the (School Kit) Challenge!

As students around the world headed back to school in September, volunteers from across Canada and the U.S. rallied together to assemble learning supplies for MCC’s annual School Kit Challenge.

  • 31,686 school kits were assembled by churches, youth groups, families and Sunday Schools. This is way more than our goal of 25,000 School Kits — thank you!
  • Donors very generously gave just over $21,000 CAD — that’s nearly twice as much as last year!

Each kit contains the essential learning supplies students need to succeed.

The supplies are lovingly packed into a colourful cloth bag that a child can use as a backpack for years to come.

Satisfaction from a life of service

For Virginia Kreitz, volunteering with MCC has been a regular part of her life for five years.

In New Hamburg, Ontario, Virginia has been a part of the volunteer team at The Hub. The Hub is home to MCC’s Canadian canned meat processing facility as well as the national headquarters for the shipment of hygiene, dignity and relief kits that are sent to countries like Ukraine and Zambia.

Every week, Virginia spends her Tuesdays and Thursdays packing and shipping comforters that have been stitched with love by MCC supporters across Canada. And on Wednesdays, she volunteers to assemble vital hygiene kits that include items like toothbrushes, combs, soap, towels, nail clippers and more.

“There’s great satisfaction knowing that you’ve made such a huge impact on the lives of other people. Because whether it’s in the comforter department or whether it’s in the dignity [kit] department, it’s giving people a better quality of life,” says Virginia.
