Water impact report - Winter 2026
An update on MCC water projects
Every drop counts
The clean water you've helped provide is changing lives in rural Mozambique
Remote parts of Mozambique are growing rapidly as poverty and climate change force families out of cities. But infrastructure can’t keep up, leaving many to rely on unsafe water sources.
Accessing clean water is a daily, life-threatening challenge for many. Waterborne diseases like dysentery and diarrhea spread easily, and crocodiles and hippos make collecting water dangerous.
Thanks to your generous support, MCC partner Christian Council of Mozambique–Caia (CCM-Caia) is well on their way to bringing safe water to people in 16 remote communities.
Here’s how your support made a difference in 2025:
- Four new boreholes in Murraça and Caia Vila now
provide clean water to 1,990 people, including 670
women and 890 children. - Public campaigns in four communities promote safe
water use, hygiene and gender equality. - Communities report fewer illnesses, higher school attendance, better hygiene and economic growth from
local farming.
*Without access to clean water, many people in the rural areas of Caia and Marromeu, Mozambique, have to get water here: the Zambezi River. They risk getting sick from the unclean water and being attacked by wild animals. But thanks to you, people now have access to clean water through hand pumps installed close to home. A deep well of gratitude
Your support has reached over 11,000 people in Ethiopia!
Since 2022, your generosity has helped strengthen livelihoods and well-being for 11,936 people in Ethiopia’s Amhara region. Through MCC’s local partner Afro Ethiopia Integrated Development (AEID), meaningful progress is reaching 15 remote communities where just 43.2% of people once had access to clean water.
In these areas, families faced unsafe drinking water, poor sanitation and long, dangerous walks to collect water. But thanks to your support, that reality is changing.
Here’s how you’re making a lasting difference:
Clean water is now within reach
- Nine shallow wells have been built, providing access to safe water for 11,936 people, including 4,717 school-aged children.
- Water collection time has dropped from over an hour to just 20 minutes a day.
Access to safe sanitation is growing
- 449 pit latrines have been constructed across nine communities.
- 135 households now have handwashing facilities, improving daily hygiene and health.
Nine committees in the community have been formed and trained to maintain boreholes and water pumps and promote ongoing hygiene education.

The traditional water sources and the far-off river were a constant burden. Since AEID built this water scheme, we have so much more time and energy. The biggest difference is in our health – we are seeing fewer water-related sicknesses. I am truly overjoyed; my happiness is immeasurable.
