An update on MCC projects
A helping hand for vulnerable families in Ukraine
Your support is reaching those who need it most
Ukraine continues to endure a devastating war, shattering lives, homes and livelihoods. In both Cherkasy and Kherson, families face relentless displacement, destroyed homes and deepening economic hardship.
Amidst the devastation, you are giving families hope.
With local MCC partner Uman Help Center Charitable Foundation, 3,532 people received practical support to help them through the winter.
From April 2024 through March 2025:
- 840 relief kits, 1,447 hygiene kits and 242 infant care
kits were distributed providing families with essentials
like toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand soap, dish soap,
towels and more. - 2,323 warm comforters stitched by MCC volunteers
from across Canada and the U.S. are now keeping
families warm in damaged or poorly insulated homes. - 886 individuals received non-perishable, protein-rich
canned meat.

Nutritious food closer to home
Short-term relief has led to long-term recovery for families in rural Zambia
The Ng’onga Ward in southern Zambia is facing severe drought, leading to widespread crop failure and food insecurity. Its remote location makes it difficult for families to access markets and supplies that are 18 kilometres away in Mbabala, the closest town.
Thank you, BIC Church, for the food rations during the most difficult time of ou lives. It was not easy to find food—we spent most of our time walking long distances and queuing for just a bag of mealie meal. You made that difficult time easier by bringing food closer to our homes. We are truly grateful.

Ng'onga Ward, Zambia
With support from MCC donors like you, Brethren in Christ Church (BICC) provided eight months of emergency food relief to 620 households — about 4,200 people — focusing on the elderly and the most vulnerable households.

Satisfaction from a life of service
For Virginia Kreitz, volunteering with MCC has been a regular part of her life for five years. In New Hamburg, Ontario, Virginia has been a part of the volunteer team at The Hub. The Hub is home to MCC’s Canadian canned meat processing facility as well as the national headquarters for the shipment of hygiene, dignity and relief kits that are sent to countries like Ukraine and
Zambia.
Every week, Virginia spends her Tuesdays and Thursdays packing and shipping comforters that have been stitched with love by MCC supporters across Canada. And on Wednesdays, she volunteers to assemble vital hygiene kits that include items like toothbrushes, combs, soap, towels, nail clippers and more.
“There’s great satisfaction knowing that you’ve made such a huge impact on the lives of other people. Because whether it’s in the comforter department or whether it’s in the dignity [kit] department, it’s giving people a better quality of life,” says Virginia.
A school of their own
Your support is empowering remote communities in India to take the lead on education
In 1998, families from 16 remote villages in the Rayagada district in Odisha, India, came together to create a school rooted in their values. They envisioned a school that celebrated their indigenous culture, promoted gender equity and taught in the students’ mother tongues along with Odia and Kui.
Throughout the following 25 years, Christian Hospital Bissamcuttack’s Mitra Residential School Kachapaju (CHB-MRSK) has been a beacon of hope for the community. The school provides holistic, community-led education to children who have long faced marginalization and limited access to quality schooling.
In 2017, MCC partnered with CHB-MRSK. Most recently, in 2025, your generous support has ensured 132 students from Grades 1–5 have the supplies and access they need to learn: textbooks, uniforms, school kits and annual health check-ups. Your support has also empowered six teachers and four support staff with professional development in team-building and innovative teaching practices.
Thanks to your support, the future for these students is looking bright.

Rising to the (School Kit) Challenge!
As students around the world headed back to school in September, volunteers from across Canada and the U.S. rallied together to assemble learning supplies for MCC’s annual School Kit Challenge.
- 31,686 school kits were assembled by churches, youth groups, families and Sunday Schools. This is way more than our goal of 25,000 School Kits — thank you!
- Donors very generously gave just over $21,000 CAD — that’s nearly twice as much as last year!
Each kit contains the essential learning supplies students need to succeed.
The supplies are lovingly packed into a colourful cloth bag that a child can use as a backpack for years to come.

A spirit of compassion and generosity
Fuelled by faith, generosity and compassion, Bert and Evelyn Reimer, of Chilliwack, B.C., have generously chosen to leave MCC a gift in their will. “We have included MCC in our will since we know that the money will go to a very good cause. We are not wealthy, but it is given in a spirit of love and compassion for the many who have so little.”
