Theme: A multi-day learning tour in Southern California, exploring historic sites and narratives of resilience in Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities past and present.
Purpose: In these times of increased tension and division, we invite BIPOC community leaders to come together to learn, center the stories of our communities and find key connections to build and strengthen solidarity.
The migrant and diasporic experiences of Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities are rich and diverse, yet they are often shaped by systems of oppression that seek to isolate and erase their histories and commonalities. Invisible borders are erected and overlaid across the same geographical landscapes, creating tensions and divisions. Despite these challenges, Indigenous, Latinx communities find each other at the intersections, in the ways they seek to survive, connect, resist, and thrive in the face of xenophobia, racism, gentrification and neoliberal policies.
Tour Description:
Hidden LA: Placekeeping Indigenous, Latinx, and AAPI Terrain Learning Tour seeks to educate and empower participants through guided tours that explore the rich and often overlooked contributions and histories of Indigenous, Latinx, and AAPI communities. This interactive learning tour will delve into key historical sites, cultural landmarks, and community spaces that highlight the intertwined experiences of these communities, emphasizing their resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
By immersing ourselves in the histories and cultures of Indigenous, Latinx, and AAPI communities, we aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of their contributions and struggles. This tour is not just about learning history; it’s about building bridges, creating allies, and working together towards a more inclusive and just society. Starting at Cahuenga Peak and journeying through La Placita to Koreatown Plaza, we will trace threads of connection woven between our stories of movement, struggle and celebration. Join us on this journey as we seek to transform ourselves and our communities.

Registration Cost:
$400 (Scholarships available), includes lodging, food, and local transportation. Airfare is not covered.
Travel Dates:
Plan to arrive in Los Angeles before 1pm on November 21 and leave after 11am on November 25.
