In the freshness of the tragedy, MCC BC has issued a call to prayer for all impacted.

Mennonite Central Committee B.C. offers prayer and solidarity with the community of Tumbler Ridge following the tragic shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, mourning those lost and lifting up all who are grieving and responding. Rooted in Christ’s call to peace, MCC issued this statement to lament violence and reaffirm its commitment to peacebuilding, reconciliation and compassionate care in times of crisis.

Mennonite Central Committee BC grieves with the community of Tumbler Ridge following the devastating shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

We mourn the lives lost and hold in prayer the families who are facing this unimaginable grief. We pray for healing and strength for those who were injured, for students and staff who experienced trauma, and for a town that now carries deep sorrow.

In moments like this, words feel inadequate. Violence tears at the fabric of community and leaves wounds that will take time, care, and compassion to mend. As an organization rooted in Christ’s call to peace, MCC B.C. laments this senseless loss of life and reaffirms our commitment to building a world where conflicts are met not with violence, but with mercy and reconciliation.

We give thanks for the first responders, medical teams, counsellors, and community leaders who are offering care and courage in the midst of crisis.

We stand with the people of Tumbler Ridge and all those across British Columbia who are grieving. May God’s comfort surround every family, every classroom, and every heart that has been shaken.

Prayer for Tumbler Ridge

Would you join us in prayer?

God of mercy, God who holds our tears,
we lift our hearts for Tumbler Ridge today.

For lives ended too soon,
for families carrying a grief too heavy to bear,
for students, teachers, neighbours, friends
we name their sorrow before you.

Hold them in your gentle hands.

Let your peace ripple through this town and our country,
through classrooms and hallways,
through streets and homes.

Where violence has torn,
may Your love weave its quiet thread,
may Your hope take root again,
may Your mercy be stronger than fear.

Amen.
