Tell Congress: Stop funding immigration raids

October 9, 2025
Background: Since January 2025, the Trump administration has removed nearly all ethical guardrails for mass arrests and deportations. With the revocation of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “sensitive locations” memo, churches, schools and hospitals are no longer safe from immigration enforcement. Masked, plain clothed ICE officers apprehend individuals and pull them into unmarked vehicles. Christians fleeing persecution and other vulnerable individuals have been deported without due process, some to third-party countries.
There is already a record number of people in immigration detention, and with increased funding from Congress, detention capacity will continue to increase. Statistics show nearly half of detained immigrants have no criminal record; even fewer have convictions for violent crimes. Those in detention describe shortages of food and water and a lack of access to legal services. In addition to causing widespread fear and harm, we are losing vital members of our communities—teachers, farm workers, health care workers, small business owners, and church members.
Ask your members of Congress to prevent harmful immigration raids and detention.
Faith reflection: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9 NIV)
