Tell Congress: Stop funding immigration raids
In recent months, the Trump administration has removed all ethical guardrails for mass arrests and deportations. With the revocation of the ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) “sensitive locations” memo, churches, schools and hospitals are no longer safe from immigration enforcement. Videos have shown masked, plain clothed ICE officers apprehend individuals and pull them into unmarked vehicles. Other individuals have been deported without due process, including to third-party countries.
Reports indicate Trump administration officials are pressuring ICE agents to increase arrests to 3,000 per day. Statistics show that most detained immigrants have either no criminal record or no convictions for violent crime. Some are Christians fleeing persecution and up to 10 million Christians remain at risk of arrest and deportation. In addition to causing widespread fear and harm, we are also losing vital members of our communities—teachers, farm workers, health care workers, small business owners, and church members.
Faith reflection: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9 NIV)
