About the film

Living Below the Line is a film that presents the lived experience of individuals living with poverty in Waterloo Region, Ontario. Initially, Living Below the Line was a stage play, co-created by people living with poverty and theatre creators. Co-creators acted out their own or each other’s stories, sharing struggles, courage and hope. The play was highly effective in dispelling audience myths and stigma surrounding poverty.

Following its debut, in early 2024, a high-quality film of the play was created for broader advocacy use. Living Below the Line shows how the current welfare system undermines the health and well-being of those living below the poverty line, and why ground-breaking change is needed.

Join us as we watch a screening of this exclusive film and have a dialogue about poverty and homelessness in the lives of our neighbors. After the screening, we'll have a chance to discuss the film with its co-creators.

This is a pay-what-you-can event. Donations will be accepted at the event to support the People's Action Group in attending the 2025 Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) National Conference in Montréal, Quebec.
