Padam Tondon, of Argakanchi District, Nepal, wants to become a commercial chicken farmer, raising broilers for meat to sell locally. A loan from MCC partner organization Sakriya Sewa Samaj enabled him to buy these day-old chicks and to have funds to build an enclosure and buy vitamins for them. Sakriya Sewa Samaj provides small loans for people such as Tondon, who are living with HIV, offering new opportunities for them to better support themselves.
This story reflects our work in Nepal before the April 25th earthquake. Before the quake, one part of MCC’s work in Nepal was promoting local, nutritious food. We will be supporting some of these same partners in our earthquake relief.
