The Phoenix Restorative Justice Center is a new partnership with the City of Phoenix, Balsz School District, Mennonite Central Community and Trinity Mennonite Church.
Our Peacebuilding initiative is to help transform schools and communities in Arizona by utilizing restorative principles to address school discipline and juvenile criminal activities. The main goal for the Phoenix Restorative Justice Center is discipline that restores.
The program is designed to facilitate healthy and direct dialogue between students and teachers about incidents that occur in the classroom that result in disciplinary actions. Studies show that this approach to discipline decreases rates in juvenile crime and re-offenders.
Balsz is the first district in Arizona to implement this program. Currently, the program is launched at Griffith Elementary School.
