Visit the Quilt Room
The Quilt Room is a Lancaster County attraction that welcomes domestic and international tour groups throughout the year. Housed in the Material Resources Center of MCC East Coast, the Quilt Room exposes you to:
- An array of spectacular handmade quilts some from donated textiles.
- A hub of activity hosting hundreds of dedicated volunteers around the year.
- A relaxed and informal atmosphere rich in fellowship.
It costs approximately $2,350 to make an average queen size quilt (98 x 112 in).
Donate time
Use your gifts! Volunteer hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Work is available for adults and children age 11 and older with many different skill levels. Please call to schedule a time to volunteer.
Donate resources
The Quilt Room accepts donations to use in new projects and to raise money through the “Quilter’s Corner,” a quilt enthusiast’s shopping delight. Accepted items include:
- Finished quilts and comforters
- Unfinished quilt and comforter tops
- Fabric
- Quilt patterns
- Notions
- Etc.
QUILT: Heirloom-quality quilt tops are created and hand stitched by skilled quilters from Lancaster County and the surrounding area in the Quilt Room. These quilts are supplied to relief sales around the country supporting MCC.
COMFORTER: A comforter, or tied-quilt, is constructed much the same as a quilt, but is tied or knotted instead of hand stitched to secure the layers. MCC sends comforters and blankets to hospitals, refugee camps, orphanages and locations experiencing disasters around the world.
Support the work of MCC through relief sales
Supplying quilts to many relief sales around the country, including the Pennsylvania Relief Sale, the Quilt Room becomes a collection site for completed quilts donated by church groups and other quilters for these sales. The quilt auctions generate significant income for MCC. In March the Quilt Room hosts a “Quilt Preview” where as many as 100 quilts of various techniques and styles are displayed with care throughout the space in anticipation of being auctioned at the Pennsylvania Relief Sale.
