SWAP (Sharing With Appalachian People) provides week-long mission/service/learning opportunities for young people and adults, mainly through the summer months. The primary focus of SWAP is housing repair for low-income individuals and families, supporting faith-sharing, communication, and understanding between volunteers and local residents.
This assignment includes a level of interaction with adult and youth groups, youth sponsors, and local SWAP clients that provide opportunities to explore new cultures, and to stretch one's faith and understanding of Christ's call to serve others.
The group of staff will be made up of persons 19 years of age older with willingness and desire to serve and lead others.
Some of your time will be given to visiting the clients beforehand at their homes. While there, instructions will be given as to what work will be done, and how to go about getting the work completed, along with which tools and materials will be needed for the job. Ongoing oversight will be provided by the Location Coordinators.
