The Appalachia program coordinator is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of MCC’s work in the Appalachian region in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. The primary program is Sharing With Appalachian People (SWAP), a home repair ministry that provides service and learning opportunities at three locations. SWAP is a year-round program with the capacity to host 700 to 1000 volunteers during the spring, summer and fall seasons. The day-to-day administration is carried out by on-site location coordinators and approximately fifteen (15) hired summer staff. In addition to administration and leadership of this program, the PC will focus on promotion, recruitment, and marketing, as well as communication with MCC Great Lakes and people in the broader MCC.
The program coordinators also serve as the primary conduit of exchange with MCC Akron, MCC Great Lakes, and the MCC workers in Appalachia. In this role, the program coordinator needs both a commitment to, and an understanding of MCC’s policies as well as an understanding and empathy for mission and service workers.
