Orie O. Miller was among the founders of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). He was one of the first Mennonites from Canada or the U.S. who traveled to Russia and Ukraine as a relief worker in 1920. He went on to be MCC’s chief executive officer for more than two decades.
Edgar Stoesz, former MCC associate executive director, worked closely with Miller for many years. Stoesz will lead a 90-minute storytelling tour around Akron and Ephrata to sites important to the story of Miller, who lived most of his life in Akron and was a principal owner of the Miller Hess Shoe Company in Akron.
Tours will depart by van from the front of the MCC office at 21 S. 12th St., Akron, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, June 19. Participants will not leave the van during the tour.
