Sunday, May 17, 2020 - 12:00pm to Saturday, May 23, 2020 - 12:00pm

MCC is carefully monitoring the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and adjusting plans as needed to do our part to help mitigate its impact and keep people safe. As a result, MCC Great Lakes has made the decision to cancel the Borderlands Learning Tour scheduled for May 17-23, 2020. For questions and to indicate interest in an upcoming learning tour, contact Juan Sebastian Pacheco Lozano at JuanPacheco@mcc.org.

MCC Mexico/U.S. Borderlands Learning Tour, May 17-23, 2020

Objective:

This learning tour is designed to bring awareness about the increasing migrant deaths, militarization, environment degradation, effects on habitat and effects on sister communities by the border wall along the Mexico/U.S. Borderlands. Participants will increase their understanding and knowledge of the social, economic, political and biblical/theological significance of migration in border communities, including advocacy tools and capacity building to engage others on borderlands and migration issues.

Participants will experience the complexities of the U.S immigration system, visa application process and visa quotas, asylum seeking process, family separation imposed by the “zero tolerance policy”, and the human factor on various sides of the spectrum. From interacting with migrants and their daily reality, passing to the affectations to sister communities at the border, continuing to the implementation of the Operation Streamline and being able to interact with the Border Patrol and their perspective related to the enforcement of migration law.

MCC will be leading a seven day Borderlands Learning Tour on Sunday, May 17 to Saturday, May 23, with the option to stay and walk the Migrant Trail.

The cost of the Learning Tour is $550, which includes all meals, modest lodging and transportation on sites. We will cross the border to Mexico, so you will need to bring your passport.
