Saturday, July 8, 2023 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

Join local experts and citizen scientists across Lancaster County to conduct a plant and insect BioBlitz of MCC’s Akron Campus. Volunteers will join experts for the morning to count as many insects and plants as possible plus enjoy local festivities. We will kick off the event at 9 a.m. and go until noon.

The morning will include Nature-centered music featuring Nodding Onion using Plantwave, technology that allows us to hear the music plants make!

  • Insect Team and Plant Team – share our findings!
  • Nature Art led by Rita
  • Native plug or plant give away
  • Tables of info, books, and nature!

We will have a PLANT Team and an INSECT Team, each led by a knowledgeable local naturalist. Grab your phone to use iNaturalist, or a pen and paper, and help us document the diversity of plants and insects we find on campus in eastern Lancaster County. A smart phone is helpful, but not required. Download the apps iNaturalist and/or PictureThis beforehand to help you with identifying wildlife.

This family-friendly event is open and FREE to the community! Join us for a fun morning of live music, an opportunity to learn about the natural environment and talk about rewilding your own landscape.

Registration is required. However, feel free to simply join us on campus and enjoy the native plants and the new Dining Hall Veranda!
