Schedule Overview
April 29, Wed: arrive at Blue Gate Garden Inn (check-in begins at 3 pm; a room could be ready earlier, but this is not guaranteed); eat the evening meal together.
April 30, Thurs: time on your own in the morning or tour Menno-Hof; options for the afternoon include Menno Hof tour or trip to see the Farmall Tractor collection (or shopping). Lunch is not planned as a group.
Supper will be Amish cooking: we will have a haystacks meal at A Taste of Shipshewana (7720 W 200 N, Shipshewana) not far from the hotel.
Evening will be at the hotel—visiting with each other (hearing about a recent Greek trip?)
May 1, Fri: This will be a day in Elkhart and Goshen. We will leave by 8:30 am on a bus to visit AMBS and Mennonite Church USA/MMN building in Elkhart, and then go to Prairie Street Mennonite Church, the place where Mennonite Central Committee first began in 1920. Arnold Roth, one of the first PAX volunteers in Greece, will speak, along with Eric Kurtz, MCC Great Lakes executive director. We will have lunch at the church (gyros and Greek salad).
After lunch, we will travel to Goshen for a stop at The Depot. There, we will tour the MCC Resources Center and the resale shops of The Depot. Later in the afternoon, the group will return to our hotel and have free time until the 6 pm catered meal in our hotel meeting room. We will have a service that evening, with MCC U.S. Executive Director Ron Byler as our guest speaker. Possible communion service to conclude our evening together.
May 2, Sat: Breakfast for hotel guests and goodbyes before check-outfrom the Blue Gate no later than 11 am. Again, we (the committee members) will provide transportation from Shipshewana to the South Bend airport and the Elkhart train station as needed.
