Write to Congress

Background: As President Trump and the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, move closer to a summit in the coming weeks, there is mounting pressure for a “breakthrough” between the two leaders. However, we must recognize that progress may be slow after years of frozen diplomacy and this summit is one vital step on the road towards reconciliation and the reduction of military threats.

At this moment, Congress should be actively supporting this dialogue. President Trump must hear strongly from members of Congress that engagement and dialogue with North Korea is the only way to resolve the conflict between our countries and move towards peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Faith reflection: “For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us” (Ephesians 2:14).

Prayers and worship resources available.

Action: Ask your member of Congress to speak out for diplomacy and to encourage the administration to see the talks between the leaders of the U.S. and North Korea as the beginning of dialogue, not the final negotiation. Tell Congress the summit between our leaders is an important step on the road to reconciliation.
