MCC in ZambiaAfrica MCC works in community development, HIV/AIDS, education and peace-building in Zambia in partnership with the Brethren in Christ Church. As the church moves toward addressing HIV/AIDS and poverty, MCC is supporting initiatives such as training pastors and church members in counseling and home-based care for those affected by HIV/AIDS and distributing AIDS care kits. MCC partners with the Brethren in Christ Church in enhancing food security through work with schools and churches. In drought years, MCC and the BIC church work together to ensure access to food for especially vulnerable households such as older adults or families headed by single parents or children. MCC reaches out to youth through work with street children and providing school kits and Global Family sponsorship program funds to students in rural Zambia, as well as in the capital city of Lusaka. MCC volunteers teach in BIC schools. MCC supports the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation’s peace program, which attracts students from throughout Africa. In Zambia, graduates have initiated pastor and church leadership trainings on conflict transformation. |
