How can we, in the United States and Canada, help to wage peace in war-torn Darfur and Southern Sudan? What can we do to quell the violence, promote reconciliation, and assist in local efforts to build a lasting peace in the region?

First, we can learn about the challenges people in Sudan face every day as well as the hopes they have for the future. Second, we can share what we learn with others in our congregation and our community and encourage them to participate in our efforts to wage peace. Third, we can advocate to our government leaders for ethical and constructive intervention.

See Sudan through the eyes of a refugee, an MCC service worker, a member of the Sudanese government. Discover how the common roots of these conflicts go well beyond religion and ethnicity to involve issues of economic justice, political participation, and the scarcity of resources.

Share what you have learned with others in your congregation and community. Lead a small group study or host a movie night. Form a small team to coordinate advocacy resources and send out regular emails to your congregation with information and advocacy opportunities.

It is important that we bring our Christian witness to our government leaders and hold them accountable to act in ways that promote peace in Sudan. We can do this through letter writing campaigns, phone calls, congressional office visits, and other activities.
