The Millennium CampaignDuring the Millennium Summit in September 2000, government leaders met at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City to pledge their support to eight time-bound targets that "when achieved, will end extreme poverty across the planet". These targets are now known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The Millennium Campaign was created in October 2002 as a way to keep world leaders accountable to their Millennium Summit pledge through their citizens. MCC has learned, over the years, that eradicating poverty is not only about providing knowledge or skills or even better seeds. It is also about transforming the economic structures and policies that keep people impoverished.
