MCC in UgandaAfrica MCC works in Uganda in community development and education, health care including HIV/AIDS and peace-building. MCC workers teach in rural primary and secondary schools. MCC’s Global Family sponsorship program helps fund a girls’ school in Masindi District, which includes students abducted in the violent campaigns of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). It also supports the education of the children of prisoners in Uganda. MCC has also provided emergency relief in Uganda, including aid in northern Uganda for families who were displaced by the long-running insurgency of the LRA, which has included abducting children, mutilating civilians and burning camps for displaced people. MCC is also working in mental health and trauma recovery for northern Ugandan families affected by the conflict. MCC supports peace work, including peace trainings for Iteso and Karimojong people whose conflicts date back decades. |
