MCC in Somalia

MCC supports primary schools for children, literacy and job training for women and education in conflict mediation for teachers and students in Somalia.

With Global Family sponsorships, MCC supports a girls' school in Adale and a school in Mogadishu. MCC funds conflict mediation training for teachers and students in Mogadishu through a partner organization, Somali Peaceline.

MCC supports a primary school in Mogadishu by funding an enrollment drive and a school nurse and supports two primary schools in southern Somalia by paying teacher salaries. MCC supports these schools through a partner organization, SAACID.

Through a partner organization, African Rescue Committee (AFREC), MCC supports two centers in southern Somalia that teach literacy and tailoring to women.

MCC is also supporting the development work of SAACID and AFREC in coastal communities struck by the Dec. 26, 2004, tsunami.
