SALT

Preparation Process

Placed candidates are encouraged to research as much information as possible about the country and culture of their placement location. When available, contact with the returned SALT alumni, who had served in the same placement or location, is established.

During the preparation process candidates receive the Welcome and Financial Packet mailings via e-mail followed by a hard copy Orientation Packet that is sent by Human Resources to the permanent address on the application form:

Welcome Packet

  • Logistics re: inoculations and medical exams
  • Passport and required visa work guidelines
  • SALT Policy Guidelines
  • MCC field guide for the country of placement
  • Reading materials for the upcoming SALT orientation

Financial Packet

  • Information about the fund-raising, financial agreement memo and donor forms with instructions on donation submissions

Orientation Packet

  • Information re: arrival and the SALT orientation schedule

Since each packet contains vital information needed to proceed with the service preparation, it is important that the GSL department is aware of both, proper mailing and e-mail address. It is the responsibility of the SALT participant to inform GSL of any changes in these addresses.

The GSL staff should be notified if no "Welcome To" packet is received within 10 business days from the acceptance of the invitation to the assignment.
