SALT

Placement Process

Once applicants are notified of their eligibility status, eligible files are forwarded to the Global Service Learning department (GSL) for placement. Applicants receive an e-mail introducing the SALT coordinator and GSL Administrative assistant and summarizing the placement process.

Based upon the actual situation the SALT coordinator will:

  • forward the file to partners in one or more countries if there are clearly identifiable matches between available positions and the incoming candidate
  • contact the applicant via phone/e-mail for further discernment. This usually happens if clear matches are not available or there is a discrepancy between the applicant’s desires and the partner needs.

Please, note that the sooner the applicant enters into a placement process the bigger the selection of the service placements and the higher the chance of a desired placement.

The placement process itself is involved and intensive. We recommend that the applicant checks e-mails regularly so as not to miss any information requiring follow up in a timely manner. It is advisable to have a working e-mail address that will not be changed (yahoo or gmail as oppose to college/university accounts). If changes are necessary, the GSL office needs to be informed of the change.

It may take up to several weeks to receive an invitation to an assignment. This depends on the availability of our partners world-wide we work with, the different means of communication available in different locations and finally, the number of applicants they are considering and the order of preference in which invitations are extended. In this time, applicants should not expect correspondence unless there is a new development to be communicated. Taken the volume of the applicants and the shortness of the placement time, the staff concentrates on furthering the placement process rather than on routine check-in correspondence.

Once an invitation is extended, the applicant is given five days to pray and discern on the invitation. Upon accepting the invitation, the placement is finalized and the newly confirmed program participant enters a preparation process.
