Walk The Line

Northern Exposure 2008

The Mushkegowuk Environmental Resource Centre (MERC) has been uncovering lethal levels of toxic waste inside the James Bay food-chain. MCCO North is pleased to partner with them as they continue the testing of wildlife and water in the affected sites.

MERC is looking for five skilled individuals to join aboriginal elders and MERC staff as part of a Site 415 research crew. The 10-12 person team will travel to one of the 17 contaminated radar sites that lie along the Western coast of James and Hudson's Bay. Together, the team will determine levels of contamination so that effective remediation of the site can begin.

MERC is wanting

  • A Registered Nurse or Medical Doctor with cross-cultural skills to do community blood testing
  • A Registered Nurse or Medical Doctor to provide 'Site Safety' while at Site 415.
  • A Human Health Educator who would work with Aboriginal communities to do PCB awareness.
  • Video Support person, to work at some filming while at the site.
  • A Botanist who would work at plant identification while at the site.
