About the webinar

Belonging to a cultural or religious group is an important part of many people's everyday lives. This is especially true among the Low German-speaking community and this engaging webinar will help address the sensitivities to be aware of when working and interacting with the Low German speaking population.

Anne Wall, kinship worker at Family and Children's Services of St. Thomas and Elgin, will give an overview of Mennonite history, highlighting Anabaptist roots and discussing the key beliefs which unite all Mennonite groups. Specifically, it explores issues such as education, gender roles and the impact of cultural and faith values.

This webinar is particularly helpful for service providers who are starting to work with the Low German-speaking population or want to expand their knowledge and cultural awareness of this diverse group. Participants can expect an engaging presentation with the opportunity to ask questions.

About the speaker

Anne Wall has been employed at Family & Children's Services of St. Thomas and Elgin for twenty-five years. Ten years were spent working as the designated Low German-speaking Child Protection Worker serving the Low German, Mennonite and Amish communities. Along with working full-time and parenting three children with her husband, Anne also holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Windsor.
