Community
members gather to discuss immigration issues
On Sunday, October 28, a group of community persons interested
in immigration issues gathered at Igelsia Menonita del Buen
Pastor in Goshen, Ind. Krista Zimmerman, Legislative Associate
for Mennonite Central Committee's (MCC) Washington Office, and
Yvonne Diaz, Executive Director for MCC Great Lakes, led a discussion
about immigration and the church's role in these issues.
The conversation spawned off a recent immigration listening
project conducted by MCC, where a variety of individuals, both
short-term immigrants and long-term immigrants, were interviewed
about their stances on various immigration issues.
Zimmerman and Diaz highlighted a few of the findings from this
report, and encouraged attendees to use the report in their
congregations. There was discussion about laws and bills in
Washington that could affect immigration reform, and the need
to get more people involved in this effort.
The results of the MCC immigration listening project have been
compiled into a report. You can download
a PDF version of the report, or contact
the Goshen office for a print version.
The report is available for use in congregations, and MCC highly
encourages dialogue and follow-up with congregations and individuals
interested in this study and taking further steps to work with
immigration
