A Global Family sponsored student in Jos. NigeriaAlmanah Rescue MissionAlmanah Rescue Mission (ARM) is an organization bringing hope to widows and orphans in Jos and other cities in Nigeria. Formerly, when most people lived in the villages, a widow would find herself taken care of by the husband's family after his death. With the rise of the big cities and disintegrating village life, widows often find themselves without extended family support. Inflation, high unemployment, low literacy rate and a 70% below poverty rate in Nigeria make life for a widow with children to support very oppressing indeed. Many children are unable to attend school. Widows may be able to provide food and shelter for their families but school fees and other necessities are out of the question. ARM sponsors over 3,000 children to attend schools around Nigeria. Global Family funds provide school uniforms, supplies and nourishing meals to these orphaned children. |
