Every generous act of giving, with every
perfect gift, is
from above,
coming down
from the
Father of lights.

Project poster (PDF) WaterIndia Water for cropsMeharali Anshari, a farmer in the village of Uruduhi in West Bengal, India, has only 1 acre of land. Before participating in an MCC-supported water project, he had little access to water for his crops and was not able to grow enough food for his family. Every year, Meharali and his oldest son had to leave his wife and four other children to travel to neighboring communities to find work. Even then, Meharalis family barely had enough food to eat two meals a day. Many other subsistence farmers in India share Meharalis struggles. In the dry season, animals die because of lack of water, and village women have to walk long distances to find water. Many men and some women must leave to go to neighboring towns in search of work during the lean part of the year. MCC is assisting families like Meharalis by helping them develop irrigation systems such as wells, ponds, dams and canals. MCC helped Meharali dig a seepage well. He now has enough water to grow and sell vegetables and earn a profit, and his family eats three meals a day. $15 makes it possible to irrigate a half-acre plot where one family can raise enough food to last six months $30 pays for the necessary labor and materials needed to bring clean drinking water to three families If contributions to a project exceed the amount needed, MCC will use the donations to support similar projects. |
