I entered SALT not knowing what to expect. What I found was an intensely rich experience that challenged and rewarded me beyond what I could have ever expected. Photography became a means to interpret and synthesize what I was seeing, doing and hearing. It helped me make the foreign more familiar, and to understand my surroundings. I took photos, and I brought along a Polaroid camera and about 100 sheets of Polaroid film. During the rainy season, Maynard, a top student known as the professor, takes a photo of a normally dry landscape turned lush and green and dotted with huge puddles.
